" The Original SS Deutschland was formed in 1935, and served as an elite front-line combat unit throughout the war, in offensives in Poland, Russia, and France, as well as fighting in the battle for Normandy after D-Day, in the summer of 1944, and in the following Battle of the Bulge. Deutschland also participated in the last offensive of the war, Operation Spring Awakening.
